Texas Holdem: How to sit out a few hands without leaving the table?

Does anyone know a way you can sit out a few hands at Texas Holdem if you want to take a few minute break (smoke/washroom)?

A lot of times when I play Texas Holdem, I see someone sit out on few hands as they’re turn passes them.

Just wondering how they do it? They don’t lose their place, the dealer doesn’t deal to their avatar and there is no waiting for other players.

I’ve never seen that happen. As an experiment, I just sat there for four hands in a row, and it let the timer time me out. But it dealt to me every hand. And players had to wait.
