It would be nice if CW would put an edit on names. When someone’s picking out new names similar to someone else’s they already have its too much confusion, so people aren’t thinking you have multiple accounts or something. Also, whoever thought putting 00.01.1 in front of your name made any sense to find you easier WELL your wrong in fact it’s harder I don’t bother anymore looking for those people. Go back to basics A B C D etc. It was so much more fun here when everyone was simple some of you are too much into making this like a job.
Agree with you, April, I’d honestly prefer if people didn’t use numbers or non-alphabetical characters at the start of their usernames just to float to the top of someone else’s friend list. It might seem harmless, but it can skew visibility in a way that’s not always fair to others.
A good solution would be to be able to add a “favorites” list or tab where the friends you mark as fav shows up on the top of the list, the rest will be in alphabitcal order.
The search can also be a little better, instead of knowing the exact name you use a dynamic filter with keywords, list updates dynamically as you type.
I can think of a few reasons why some players are so adamant about being seen first on someone else’s list, maybe it’s to increase their chances of getting party invites, feeling more connected, or simply being noticed in a crowded space. It’s a low-effort tactic that can come from a place of wanting to belong, but when everyone starts doing it, it becomes noise.
- Trying to be more visible
- Optimizing for friend list order
- Possibly craving connection, attention, or inclusion
- Using a simple, clever tactic for passive engagement gain
At the end of the day, genuine connections, active participation, and good vibes matter way more than where your name sits alphabetically.
I totally agree with what @APRIL_DIAMOND_62 and @Night_Guy said about getting rid of the name prefix numbers. I think of my friends by their alphabetical names as we do IRL, and have difficulty remembering any sort of numbers after their name anyway, without having to contend with the ones that come before also. It’s especially difficult because you have those that start with 0, those that don’t, and those that have a space after the number or don’t have one.
I don’t want to speculate about why people do this. It just reminds me of the phone book Yellow Pages where in the beginning you have all these businesses whose names begin with multiple "a"s. I can see that in business, but this is just a game folks. Let’s not make things any harder for us to find you, our friends, than they already are.
Also I wish there were some way for us to see when one of our friends changes their name to a different one. I realize that due to the various dramas that play out here, some would like to hide from those who’ve wronged them by not sharing their new name with everyone. However, at least give your true friends the courtesy of letting them know that you’re going by a new name so we can find you.
I wish there was a feature to mark your “best friends”, like I have on my phone contacts app. I have a lot of “friends” that I don’t chat with because I want to be able to find them(or they find me) on overflow parties. Or getting invited to private poker games. It would be nice to be able to have a way of seeing “best friends”, ones I chat with a lot. Then we can get rid of these naming method schemes.
