Why I like Blackjack

@Elanor Thank you Elanor. I know mine is a bad run and I just had to vent. I appreciate your feedback. I guess I will keep better statistics the next time I am playing because I know this current one it feels like it has been all dealer wins. It has been just ugly to watch it happen consistently.

Elanor, I’m sure you’ve tested for the same in playing 3 Card Poker, and my guess is that you opt for Blackjack either due to your preference for the game coupled with being able to wager higher amounts and it’s possible higher winning percentage? Also, betting 12.25bn to win 548mm doesn’t seem like great odds. I suppose my ancillary question is, why not play the highest winning percentage games (ie, Mahjong) to flush out your charms, my guess is that the game takes a LOT longer while only allowing for 10mm max bets. I will add that I’m not here to change anyone’s likes or behaviors, just trying to learn, curious is all.

Thanks in advance,

That’s exactly right. Jewels and Mahjong are guaranteed wins, but they take a lot longer to cash in the Unicorns. I don’t play Three Card Poker because the house has the advantage, unlike Blackjack. See my post on this for more info: 3 Card Poker or Blackjack?

I am curious how basing your math strictly on your own experience would hold up if you could average it across every player in the game? Is a single player a sound basis for establishing the probability for all players? I know if you threw my averages in with your own numbers, it would greatly skew the averages you are experiencing.

To each their own. No1 will ever convince me that Sparkplug isnt the best game for ponies. It cashes out ponies faster then any game ive tried. Its so little risk for huge reward. Just my opinion.

Although this is off topic, but in reply, I like Mahjong for ponies because it pays better and there is zero loss in coins.

I tried sparkplug poker at 500K bets with 100 hands. Loaded 200 ponies. In Sparkplug poker it returns only 860 million on average. In Mahjong, 200 ponies get 1 billion each time. Takes longer of course, but its always pure profit.

As i said, this is off topic but just a reply to @CaptainCrow

related/semi-unrelated…..completed today’s blackjack challenge which was to win a split-bet 3 times. On the hand that I did in fact complete said challenge, the challenge box said “challenge completed” but the dealer had not yet finished her hand!!!

Happens all the time. I always know if I’ve won before the dealer’s hand is shown.

I agree Nash, zero loss is awesome, but i hate mahjong lol, and it takes wayyy to long for my likings lol. i dont like sparkplug either tbh but its just takes so little time.

I have compared my results to Night Guy, who uses the same strategy, and we have similar results. I have confidence in the results as they match computer simulations.

Other players are going to have worse results unless they are following the basic strategy exactly.

I remember a post on the old forum (now defunct) where there was data from CW (briefly posted) that a player using this optimum strategy had a 104% ROI but all players had about 99% ROI.

So if you don’t want to play optimally (too much work), by all means cash in your charms on Mahjong or Sparkplug. The charms are what matter most anyway.

Thank you Elanor for your amazing math skills and willingness to help others.

i’ll try black jack again later, after watching the dealer at one point get 25 out of 30 hands dealt 19 or better vs my average starting hand of 14 or fewer, paying for insurance 3x and watching the dealer get 21’s other than and ace and face card, and losing over 250 mil.. at a 4% expected winning advantage to myself, and realizing i will need about 4 months to recoup my losses assuming i dont hit another bad pot of luck, i gave up :grimacing:

In reference to @Elanor’s comment, here is the relevant post. It contains excerpts from my conversation about gameplay with Dougaroo, who I believe is the retired engineer and owner of CW. The first two paragraphs were originally part of a reply to a different user.

Thank you Night Guy! Even with average play, Black is an almost break even game. And using either of our tables makes the game a winner.

Playing BJ sometimes reminds me of Clark Griswold in Vegas Vacation. Hit me. That’s a bust.

I got 20. Stand. What did you say? Softly the dealer says Blackjack. What did you say? Then the dealer puts on a big smile and says ‘I said Blackjack’ as Clark loses again and again

I just went through that. Went from being going back and forth even, then all of a sudden the dealer wins almost every hand with 20, 21 or BJ! Down 35 hands, I left the game and hope the luck goes my way the next time I play. I felt like Clark Griswold.

Yes with each Mahjong match, a pony pays 5 M.

Continuing the discussion from Why I like Blackjack:

Why I hate Blackjack. I love the game don’t get me wrong, but I was looking forward to attempting to gain some substantial amount so close to a milestone. I went single player, put a million on all 5 seats, and she flips a blackjack. POOF 5 mil gone without even a play. Pissed off, I pressed deal again, thinking not this time you hack…. BAM….she flips another blackjack. 10 million gone without even getting to hit or stand once……….. This has happened to me several times on different $ levels.

@DB4LBroncos I understand your thoughts and agree. While I know it is said the player has a 4% advantage if they play perfectly, the dealer draws more BJ’s and make 21 quite more frequently than what you would think statistics provide. The other day the dealer managed 8 out of 10 straight hands with BJ or 21 against me. And the dealer was getting 21 with up card showing of 2, 3, 5, 6. I even had one hand in this mess when I had 3 BJ’s which resulted in 3 push and 2 losses. Magic for the dealer, Clark Griswold for me.
