Does anybody know if a Non-VIP can win a yeti or any other pet?
From what I understand, yes a Non-VIP can win a Yeti. VIP gives you extra perks, but challenges are open to all from what i understand

I would have thought a Non-VIP could win a Yeti because they are a prize on the party buster meter

YES! non-VIPs can have pets as gifts, winning them in parties, or prior VIPs (who had earned them doing challenges) that let their VIP lapse.
