just curious is there an actual “best” time to collect from your city? 6hrs, 8hrs, 12 hrs? or does it really matter? thoughts anyone lol? ive tried many different times and ive gone with every 12hrs, but im not sure it mattters.

I get the impression it’s largely down to what you want from it - I collect twice each day too but it isn’t an even 12 hour split, it varies depending on what time I log in, in the morning.
My understanding is the coins and green prizes are collectable every six hours and I have seen lots of debate on here about the merits of getting them when they’re ready versus waiting until they reach the most they can for each day. I haven’t tested this out for myself
I do what I do because I am a creature of habit - I collect when I’ve completed my challenges and again the following morning.

I’m a third shifter who gets off work at 6 AM. By the time I get home and situated I usually gather my City coins once a day somewhere between 7 and 8 AM

It takes Time for your Green Prize Boxes to Grow as Large as they can. Coins do not matter. Coins Accumulate on your Buildings, No Matter What, for 3 Days on the CW Server! It takes my L3/T15 monuments 22Hrs to Give me GoldCards/Wine! 
If I collect before 22Hrs, I get BlueTonic/Surfboards! 
As a result I collect like @Mister_Kev , Once Daily, about 24Hrs. 
I also do my Evolving and Building Replacement at that Time. I try to get my Free Power-ups from Mahjong, Fringo and LilyPond at that Time too!

Like others, I collect my coins/green prizes once a day after I get home from work, and like @SteveSunset I also use that time to evolve my monuments, buy more buildings to evolve into L1 and the cycle continues daily.
It’s a routine that works for me and everyone will have their own routine. Like @SteveSunset said about the 24 hour thing for coins, etc, I too find that collecting once a day gives me the better green prizes payout (Gold cards and Holiday wine)

yes ive found i get more gold cards when i wait 24hrs, if not as Steve said, i get surfboards and tonics

This is Only my 2nd day of collecting Once Daily – every 22-24 hours.
Before that, I was collecting every 4 or 8 hours.
I’ve gotten 2 gold cards since starting the 22-24 hours!
No wine yet! I will be patient and keep on building! 
Currently I have 2: L3/T15 Monuments (I can make a third one tomorrow!)
I’m saving my Rare T7s.
I love reading what you all are doing!

The charms you get depends on the vALUE OF YOUR CITY. i GOT LIKE 27 tIER 4 BUILDIGS AND ALL MY CHARMS ARE WINE OR GOLD DECK CARDS
