I am not sure how it works to “build up my city” I have buildings and when I got into add more, most of them have a “upgrade symbol” which is a blue circle with double up arrows(which means upgrade) by them. My question is this, when I click on the blue symbol and I spend to upgrade, is the original building then deleted and replaced by the new one? Or does the original one stay in my city and I then have a new building? Does the tier of them go up each time when you upgrade?
Yes. The original building is deleted and the new “upgrade” is added. You loose the original building. The Tier will go up when you “upgrade”. I typically don’t focus too much on upgrading unless I am doing it for the asthetics of my city because I loose too much doing it.
For example. I am going to upgrade a L6 monument to a L9 monument. I will pay the same L9 monument cost, but loose the L6 one. I did it a lot in the beginning of my time here, but I don’t do it anymore. It’s not worth the cost.
As I understand it the original building is removed when you upgrade.
I never upgrade because for the same number of gems or building bucks I can have an additional building.
If you care that the buildings you get when upgrading can’t be bought and you want them, then do the upgrade - if you care about the overall gem value of your city then don’t upgrade because it seems that the gem value of what you hold in your itinerary is what counts as the gem value of your city, not what you may have previously spent but have subsequently disposed of
When you use buildings to create a monument, the monument is worth the same in gems as the buildings you used to make but that certainly doesn’t seem to be the case when you upgrade
exactly @Eddi_Bets I used to upgrade in the beginning and still have those buildings. But I have not done that in ages now once i realized I’m loosing those gems i originally spent on the building I am now upgrading.
If we upgrade, we should get that cost of the original building deducted from the one we are buying.
I don’t upgrade buildings. I use them to build monuments.
I use the gem value to make sure I have exactly 100 gems of Tier 1-6 buildings to get an L1 (Tier 7) monument.
Then I evolve an L1 into an L2 monument (Tier 10) by adding exactly 900 gems of Tier 7 to 9 buildings and monuments.
Then I evolve an L2 into an L3 monument (Tier 15) by adding exactly 9000 gems of Tier 10 to 14 buildings and monuments. I will build a Tier 10, Tier 13 and Tier 14 building to do this.
Then I evolve an L3 into and L4 monument T(Tier 23) by adding exactly 70000 gems of T14 or higher buildings.
Always wait 4-5 days after a new build to exploit enhanced HMP payout.
I am at the stage now where my programme is routine;
2 x City View to make a Level 1,
1 x Midnight Bowl plus 2 x Penthouse Hotel to make a Level 2,
3 x Ocean Dome when I’m ready to upgrade a Level 2 to a Level 3, and
7 x either (or combination of) Casino Satellite & Midnight Circus to make a Level 3 into a 4
It means I don’t have to change my city design and I have a spreadsheet to track my buildings, so when I buy new of any of those I take the oldest existing one out and the new one goes in the space it vacated. I date my purchases on the spreadsheet so I don’t move anything on too soon and because I record the level and equivalent gem value I know what my estate is worth (apart from the party venues)
I did some upgrades merely for the look of the buildings. I really liked some of them so was willing to take the loss. Do they make up some of the loss by being higher tiered over time? IDK
Haven’t done it in a long time because I have all the ones I liked. Feel free to seek them out in my City if you want to see what some of them look like.
Just an FYI: I did an upgrade–forgot what the original building was–but the building upgrade offered was the Bamboo Palace. Tier 6, not sure if that upgrades…
